IELTS Writing Task 2 is one of the most challenging parts of the IELTS exam. You need to write an essay of at least 250 words in response to a point of view, argument, or problem. Here are 10 key strategies to score Band 7.0 or higher:
1. Understand the Question Type
Before you start writing, identify the essay type: Agree/Disagree, Discussion, Advantages/Disadvantages, or Direct Questions. Writing the wrong structure will hurt your Task Achievement score.
2. Spend 5 Minutes Planning
Do not write immediately. Spend time brainstorming ideas, choosing your main points, and organizing your body paragraphs. A well-planned essay is always more coherent.
3. Write a Clear Thesis Statement
Your thesis statement in the introduction should state your position clearly. This sets the direction for the entire essay.
4. Use the PEEL Paragraph Structure
Make sure every body paragraph follows the PEEL structure: Point, Explanation, Evidence/Example, Link.
